Sweetshrub Calycanthus 3G

Also known as Carolina Allspice or Spicebush, this low maintenance native shrub is a fantastic choice for woodland beds, borders, and native privacy screens - ideally planted where you can enjoy the fragrant crimson blooms in spring. Blooms continue sporadically throughout the spring and summer. Leaves are aromatic when crushed.
Tolerates sun and shade, but prefers protection from harsh afternoon sun. Sweetshrub will grow bushier in sunny locations, and lankier in shady spots. 
Arching, rounded growth habit, this native will slowly naturalize areas through suckering - prune suckers in spring if you wish to control the growth. Flowers occur on both new growth and old wood: refrain from over-pruning your Sweetshrub to enjoy the best spring scent. Any desired pruning should be performed immediately after flowering. Deciduous.

Flowers attract pollinators. Deer-resistant, disease-resistant.

Size: Matures to 6'-12'. Plant multiples 6' apart. Delivered in 3G pot for quicker mature size.

Light Requirements: Sun, Part-Shade, Shade. Protect from direct afternoon sun.

Water: Prefers consistently moist, loamy soil. Will tolerate typical summer droughts once established; water during dry periods in first growing period, and during severe droughts.
