The oak-leaf hydrangea for smaller spaces! Ruby Slippers produces the dramatic foliage and panicles of showy blooms like its full-size sister, but grows to a more compact 4'x5' max size. However, the most noticeable difference is the late season progression of Ruby Slippers' blooms: summer's white flowers turn pink, and deepen to ruby red as autumn comes in.
Fairly drought tolerant once established, hydrangeas prefer well-drained, regularly moist soil. Oak-leaf varieties generally thrive in slightly more shade than other hydrangeas, but also love sun with afternoon shade.
3 Gallon pot. Deciduous, new growth forms on old wood. Flowers provide winter interest. Loved by birds, coveted by your neighbors.
